1. Who you are dealing with
These terms apply to work carried out by HD Electrical: electrical installation, rewiring, consumer unit upgrades, sockets and lighting, fault finding, testing and inspection, and emergency call-outs, for homes and for businesses. "We" means HD Electrical.
HD Electrical is a trading name of Harry Daler.
We are registered with NAPIT, which assesses electricians against the wiring regulations (registration number 78966).
Contact us on 07498 924860 or at hd.electrical@hotmail.com.
2. Quotes and price
We give you a written quote before we start work, and quotes are free. The price in the quote is the price you pay for the work and materials it describes.
For an emergency or fault-finding visit there is an initial call-out charge of £75, which includes the first hour of labour. We tell you this when you call, before we set off.
We are not VAT registered, so the price we quote is the total, with no VAT to add.
Fault finding is the one kind of job where we cannot price the repair before we have found the fault. We will tell you what we have found and what it will cost before we put it right, and we will not do extra work and add it to the bill afterwards. The same applies if we find something else that needs doing once we are there, such as a second faulty circuit: we tell you, you decide.
3. When the contract starts
There is a contract once you accept our quote, by phone, by text, by email or in person, and we confirm a date to start.
4. Your right to change your mind
If you are a consumer, meaning you are buying for yourself and not for a business, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 apply when you agree a job away from our premises, which includes at your home or over the phone. How they apply depends on what kind of job it is.
Emergencies: no cancellation right
If you specifically ask us to come out urgently to deal with an emergency repair, such as a dead supply, a tripping circuit that will not reset or a dangerous fault, the law does not give you the 14-day right to cancel that job. That includes the parts we need to fit to put it right. If we do something extra that you did not ask for as the urgent repair and that you agree to on the day, the right to cancel does apply to that extra work or those extra goods.
Booked jobs: 14 days to cancel
For a job you book for later, such as a rewire, a consumer unit upgrade, new lighting or sockets, or an electrical inspection report, you have 14 days to cancel without giving a reason. The 14 days start on the day you agree to the work.
To cancel, just tell us. An email to hd.electrical@hotmail.com, a text or a phone call is enough. You can use the form below, but you do not have to. Sending your cancellation before the 14 days are up is enough.
If you want us to start inside the 14 days
Often you will want a booked job done sooner than that. You can ask us to start straight away, and we are glad to, but so that everyone knows where they stand:
- We will ask you to confirm in writing, by text or email, that you want us to start before the 14 days are up. This is a legal requirement and it protects you as well as us.
- If you then cancel within the 14 days you still have the right to, and you pay only for the work done up to that point, in proportion to the whole job.
- If we have finished the whole job within the 14 days at your express request, and you have confirmed you understand the right to cancel then ends, you can no longer cancel it.
Materials ordered specially for you
If we order materials made or cut to your specification, or that cannot be returned to the supplier, they may not be covered by the right to cancel once ordered. We will tell you before we order anything like that. If you cancel in time and none of this applies, we refund what you have paid within 14 days.
Model cancellation form
You do not have to use this, but it is here if it is easier. Copy it into an email to hd.electrical@hotmail.com.
To Harry Daler (HD Electrical), hd.electrical@hotmail.com:
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following service:
Ordered on:
Name:
Address:
Signature (only if sending on paper):
Date:
If you are a business, these statutory cancellation rights do not apply. Please give us as much notice as you can if you need to cancel a booked job.
5. Payment
Payment is due when the job is finished. For a larger job we may agree a deposit or stage payments with you in writing before we start. We will tell you how you can pay when we give you the quote.
6. What we need from you
- Safe access to the property and to the consumer unit, meter and the areas we are working in, at the agreed time, and somewhere to park.
- A clear working area. Please move valuables and fragile items out of the way. We take care, but we cannot take responsibility for items left in a work area.
- Permission to switch the electricity supply off. We will tell you how long it will be off and plan around anything that cannot lose power, such as medical equipment, freezers, alarms and computers. Please tell us about those before we start.
- To tell us what you know about the installation, including anything that has been altered, any known faults, and the age and condition of the wiring.
- To tell us before we start if you know of, or suspect, asbestos in the areas we will be working in. We cannot drill, cut or disturb it.
- To be at the property, or reachable by phone, when we arrive.
7. Electrical safety, testing and certificates
- Standards. We carry out and test our work to BS 7671, the Wiring Regulations (18th Edition, as amended).
- Certificates. Where the work calls for one, you receive the appropriate certificate when the job is finished: an Electrical Installation Certificate for new installations and rewires, a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for smaller alterations, or an Electrical Installation Condition Report for an inspection. Keep them safe. You may need them for your insurer, your landlord, your mortgage lender or a buyer.
- Notifiable work. Some work in a home in England must be notified under Part P of the Building Regulations. Where yours must be, we make sure it is notified and tell you what to expect.
- Inspection reports. An Electrical Installation Condition Report records the condition of the installation on the day. It is a report, not a guarantee that nothing will fail later. If it records faults, we will explain them and quote separately for any remedial work, and you are free to have that done by someone else.
- Fault finding. We will do our best to find the cause of a fault, but some faults are intermittent or hidden and cannot be found on a single visit. We will tell you honestly if that is the case.
- Right to refuse. We may decline to start, or to carry on with, work that we judge to be unsafe, and we will explain why. That includes work on an installation that is dangerous until the danger is put right, and we may need to isolate part of it for your safety.
8. Emergency call-outs and wasted visits
If we arrive and cannot do the job because we cannot get in, we cannot reach you, or the site is unsafe to work in, we may charge a reasonable amount for the wasted visit. We will tell you before we set off, or on arrival, if we are going to.
9. Arrival times
We take emergency calls at any hour, every day. When you call we will give you a time. That time is an estimate. Traffic, weather, the number of calls we are dealing with and the distance to you can all move it, and we do not guarantee a response time. We will tell you as soon as we know if it is going to change. Larger jobs are by appointment, and we agree the dates with you.
10. Guarantees and your legal rights
Materials and equipment we fit carry the manufacturer's own guarantee, where the manufacturer gives one. If something is wrong with the equipment or with our work, tell us and we will look at it. We do not give a separate written guarantee of our own.
None of this affects your legal rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 our services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods we supply must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Nothing in these terms takes that away.
11. Liability
We take care of your property and we make good damage we cause. We are fully insured, with public liability and professional indemnity cover.
We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses such as lost profit where the work is for a business rather than for you personally.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. If something goes wrong
Tell us. Call 07498 924860 or email hd.electrical@hotmail.com and we will look into it and reply within 30 days. Most things are quicker to fix than to argue about, and we would rather fix them.
13. Dispute resolution and the law
We are not a member of an ombudsman or alternative dispute resolution scheme, and we do not agree in advance to use one. If we cannot sort something out between us, you are free to take the matter to court.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
14. Using this website
The content of this site, including the text, the photographs and the design, belongs to us or is used with permission. You are welcome to look at it, print it and share a link to it. Please do not copy it onto another site or use it commercially without asking.
We keep the information here as accurate as we can, but it describes our services in general terms. The guidance on electrical work is general and is not advice on your own installation. Only the quote we give you for a job is a price.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your job is the one on this page when you accepted the quote.
