1. What we are aiming for
We want anyone to be able to find out what we do and get help from us, whether or not they use a mouse, a screen reader or a magnifier, or are on a phone with the lights out.
The site is built to aim at WCAG 2.2 level AA, which is the standard UK government guidance points at. No law obliges a business of this size to publish a statement like this one, but the Equality Act 2010 does require us to make reasonable adjustments, and saying plainly what we have done is part of that.
2. What that means in practice
- There is a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
- The menu, the forms and the buttons can all be used from the keyboard, and the Escape key closes the menu.
- The two video clips on the Recent work page do not play until you press play, and they have the browser's own controls.
- Photographs have descriptions for screen readers, and purely decorative images are hidden from them.
- Every form field has a label that stays visible, and the form tells you in words when something has not sent or needs correcting.
- The pages are marked as British English, and reflow to a narrow phone screen. Buttons and links in the menu and footer are sized to be easy to tap.
- Animation is switched off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion.
- There are no cookie banners or pop-ups to get past.
- You can call us as well as use the form.
3. How far it has been tested
This is our own work and our own checking. It has not been audited by an outside specialist, we have not recorded a page-by-page test against every WCAG 2.2 criterion, and we have not tested it with the range of screen readers and speech-recognition software people really use. Please treat the list above as what we have built in, not as a certificate.
4. What we know may not be perfect
- We have not yet measured the colour contrast of every text and background combination across the site and published the results.
- The Before and After switch on the Recent work page is a small interactive control. We have not tested how it is announced by every screen reader.
- The two video clips have no captions or transcript. They show finished work and carry no speech, and the same job is described in text beside each one.
5. Getting the same help another way
If any part of this site does not work for you, nothing here is only available online. Call 07498 924860 or email hd.electrical@hotmail.com, and we will deal with it the same way. For an emergency, call.
6. Telling us about a problem
Email hd.electrical@hotmail.com or call 07498 924860. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will come back to you within five working days. If the fix is quick we will just do it.
This site is built and maintained for us by Sandbanks Digital, and anything you report gets passed to them.
7. If you are not satisfied
